The Chicago Stars FC struggled to find their rhythm Friday night, losing 2-0 to Boston Legacy FC.
Boston took control early and quickly found its opportunities, while Chicago’s offense struggled to break through. The result dropped the Stars in the standings as Boston moved ahead with three points.
The Legacy opened the scoring in the 22nd minute following a penalty kick. Amanda Gutierres was able to give Boston a 1-0 lead. Chicago tried to respond before halftime and create some chances but couldn’t score.
The Stars almost found an equalizer in the final minutes of the half through an attempt that ended up hitting the crossbar. Boston extended their advantage when Nichelle Prince scored in the 58th minute, giving the Legacy two goals.
The Stars continued pushing but Boston goalkeeper Casey Murphy made saves that prevented the Stars from catching up.
Chicago goalkeeper Katie Atkinson was pushed throughout the match as Boston consistently applied pressure. The Legacy controlled much of the possession and prevented Chicago from really attacking.
This loss comes after Chicago’s 3-2 victory over the Utah Royals. It’s evident that Chicago wasn’t able to carry that momentum into this game. The Stars now need to regroup before their next game and really focus on a strong offensive strategy.
