Brazil and Egypt played an entertaining and competitive friendly match in what served as one of their final rehearsals before the World Cup finals. While officially a friendly, both sides showed plenty of intensity, commitment, and determination throughout the game.
Egypt came in hot and looked dangerous from the opening whistle. The team continued to demonstrate its strength in the air, frequently looking to create opportunities through headers. Just 5 minutes and 38 seconds into the match, Egypt nearly opened the scoring when a dangerous attempt flashed across the face of goal.
Brazil responded quickly. In the 7th minute, Bruno Guimarães, wearing No. 8, finished off a rapid goal after Brazil moved the ball from their own end into Egypt's half with a series of quick passes. Egypt had been slow to control a pass from their goalkeeper, allowing Brazil to win possession high up the field. A brief moment of hesitation proved costly as Brazil was able to take a 1-0 lead.
The advantage lasted only a few minutes. In the 10th minute, Egypt's No. 11, Mostafa Ziko, spotted the Brazilian goalkeeper out of position and calmly finished to equalize the match at 1-1. The goal continued an impressive run for Zeko, who had also scored a goal against Russia the previous week. He is clearly showcasing his ability on the international stage.
Following the equalizer, Brazil pushed forward again, forcing Egypt’s goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir into action as he comfortably caught another Brazilian attempt.
As the match settled, the intensity increased. With the World Cup only a week away, both coaching staffs were clearly focused on avoiding injuries. Players showing any signs of discomfort were treated cautiously. When Wesley França collided with an Egyptian player, Brazil wasted no time substituting him for Danilo as a precautionary measure. Neither team appeared willing to take unnecessary risks ahead of the World Cup.
Brazil's midfield trio worked tirelessly to control possession and maintain the tempo, while Egypt remained disciplined and organized.
In the 22nd minute, Brazil’s Marquinhos received a yellow card following an incident involving Egypt's Omar Marmoush. The match continued to be physical, though largely under control.
The pace picked up again in the 25th minute when Vinícius Júnior sparked excitement among Brazilian supporters. Operating effectively down the left side, he glided past defenders and linked up well with teammates as Brazil threatened to retake the lead. However, Shobeir once again proved equal to the challenge, reading the play quickly and preventing a goal.
Brazil's Raphinha also impressed, displaying excellent balance and agility while cutting sharply left and right, leaving Egyptian defenders struggling to keep pace. Throughout the first half, Shobeir remained one of Egypt's standout performers, making a series of important saves.
Egypt's defensive discipline was tested further when Egypt’s Mohamed Hany received a yellow card after a heavy challenge on Vinícius Júnior.
Just before halftime, Egypt nearly found another breakthrough. In the 45th minute, Ahmed Fatouh rose for a header but fell awkwardly afterward, appearing to suffer a head injury during the sequence.
Brazil eventually regained the lead in the 51st minute. Endrick finished off a quick attacking move after receiving an excellent pass from teammate Raphinha, putting Brazil ahead 2-1.
Egypt continued searching for another equalizer. In the 58th minute, Salah attempted a long-range effort, but the shot sailed well over the crossbar.
As the match entered its closing stages, both teams continued to compete fiercely despite the friendly status of the contest. The players remained fully committed, refusing to give up ground while also keeping one eye on the upcoming World Cup.
At the final whistle, Brazil's coach appeared pleased with both the result and the performance of the squad he had assembled. Vinícius Júnior stood out on the left flank, consistently creating danger and stretching Egypt's defense, while Thiago also enjoyed a strong evening.
For Egypt, the match provided valuable preparation ahead of next week's match with Morocco in New Jersey. Although the result did not go their way, the team showed plenty of encouraging signs and will hope to sharpen its form before the World Cup begins.
The final score finished Brazil 2, Egypt 1, in a match that was friendly in name but fiercely competitive in spirit.
