LAFC continued to show its dominance over MLS competitors after defeating St Louis City SC 2-0 on March 14 at BMO Stadium.
The Black and Gold are currently the only team with four wins in the MLS to have registered a shutout in each of their first four games this year.
The club joins only three other teams that have opened a season without conceding a goal in their first four games in MLS history. St. Louis City was the last club to accomplish the milestone in 2015.
Combining MLS and Concacaf Champions Cup play, LAFC has outscored its opponents 16-2 to start off the new year.
“The most important thing for this club is winning trophies," LAFC's Ryan Raposo said. “It’s the mentality of getting three points, whether we are home, away, [playing] Champions League, MLS, doesn't matter the competition.
Mathieu Choinière’s brace performance allowed LA to continue its best start to an MLS season in club history.
The first goal of the match came in the 73rd minute after Choinière dribbled from midfield and let off a shot from the edge of the box to give LA a 1-0 lead.
Shortly after, Choinière caught a loose ball off a header from a St. Louis player that attempted to clear the ball out of harm's way. The Canadian midfielder stepped up to the loose ball and shot a dart towards goal that doubled the lead for LA.
“Our coach gives us all the confidence we need to go forward,” Choinière said. “[Scoring] the two goals in the same spot is something I’ve been working on daily, and today was a good day. In training, we spend time on this, so when it comes to games, it’s natural.”
LAFC’s Hugo Lloris finished the match with four saves while St. Louis put up a season-high 19 shots.
The French goalkeeper now has four consecutive clean sheets in MLS play this season.
LAFC had the opportunity in the first minute of the match to score after LAFC’s Son Heung-min set up his teammate Denis Bouanga with a wide-open shot opportunity that was eventually overhit above the crossbar.
Bouanga had another opportunity to score in the 85th minute after hitting the base of the post from an attempted one-touch finish.
LAFC’s Nathan Ordaz nearly scored just before halftime after spinning near the penalty area and hitting the post from a left-footed shot.
The 22-year-old made his first start of 2026 at the top striker position.
The Black & Gold will play Alajuelense in Costa Rica on March 17 at 8:00 p.m. CST for the second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16.
